Brussels - Prison guards on strike after agressions against guards outside the prison

SAINT-GILLES - The guards of the Brussels' prison of Saint-Gilles went on strike to protest against three attacks that took place in the last week against guards outside of the prison; and against the possible tranfer of Farid Bamouhammad, a very reputaded prisoner who is fighting for years now against the prison system, to their prison.

The three agressions: one guard in uniform threatend with a knife on the metro, one guard in uniform attacked and robbed with a knife next to the train station of Brussels and one employe of the medical staff of the prison who was beaten just outside the prison.

The strike lasted for some days, Farid is still in the high security wing of the prison of Bruges and will not be transferred to Saint-Gilles.
